This cable has the role of interconnecting my semi-high end R2R DAC to an active preamplifier. Compared to another brands mid-tier interconnect, the difference in sound quality with the Gourd is night and day. Note weight is enhanced. Bass becomes far deeper and richer without loss of balance. Midrange clarity improves. Treble has more extension; which perplexingly coincides with more upper-end smoothness and overall organic presentation.
Timbre / signature: Balanced, detailed, deep.
Soundstage: Wide, great instrument separation, cohesive, well defined
In my particular setup, prior to using this interconnect, it felt as if my headphones were not "full" of sound, and despite my otherwise high end components, headphone listening felt thin and lacking in detail and depth. Using speakers was extremely satisfactory and I thought nothing more could be gained there - but I wanted to improve my headphone experience.
After much research I settled on the UEW cable as the structure of conductor seemed suited to increasing depth and note weight.
I didn't expect such a drastic improvement. Headphone listening now meets my expectations. Using my active coaxial monitor speakers was where I did not expect an improvement, but now the speakers "disappear" and I can listen for hours longer than before due to the addictive presentation of the sound. Music of all genres is so balanced - but not lacking in excitement. Quite possibly my favourite interconnect.
